Understanding Women’s Health

Your body changes through every decade. Here’s what to know.

🩺

Hormonal Health

From menstrual regulation to menopause management, hormonal balance is foundational. Estrogen and progesterone therapies help manage symptoms like hot flashes, mood changes, and bone density loss.

💊

Contraception

Oral contraceptives remain one of the most reliable methods of birth control. Modern formulations offer benefits beyond pregnancy prevention, including cycle regulation and acne improvement.

🌿

Prenatal Care

Prenatal vitamins with folic acid, iron, and DHA are essential starting before conception. Adequate nutrition supports fetal development and maternal health throughout pregnancy.

🔬

Vaginal Health

Bacterial vaginosis, yeast infections, and vaginal atrophy affect millions of women. Targeted treatments including antifungals, antibiotics, and topical estrogens provide relief.

Common Conditions by Age Group

Menstrual disorders (Ages 15–35) 26% of women
Fertility challenges (Ages 30–44) 12% of women
Perimenopause symptoms (Ages 40–55) 85% of women
Postmenopause health (Ages 55+) 60% seek HRT
Urinary tract infections (All ages) 50–60% lifetime
Did you know? According to the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC), hormone replacement therapy initiated within 10 years of menopause onset significantly reduces cardiovascular risk and improves quality of life.[1]

Frequently Asked Questions

Is hormone replacement therapy (HRT) safe?
For most women under 60 or within 10 years of menopause onset, the benefits of HRT outweigh the risks. The SOGC and North American Menopause Society (NAMS) support HRT for symptomatic women. Your prescriber will assess your individual risk factors including family history, blood clot risk, and breast cancer history.[1][2]
When should I start taking prenatal vitamins?
Health Canada recommends starting prenatal vitamins (particularly folic acid 0.4–1mg daily) at least 3 months before conception. Neural tube development occurs in the first 28 days of pregnancy, often before you know you’re pregnant.[3]
How do I get a prescription through HerHealth?
Complete our online medical questionnaire, which is reviewed by a licensed Canadian physician. If appropriate, a prescription is issued electronically to our pharmacy. Your medication ships in discreet packaging directly to your door.
Can I use vaginal estrogen cream if I’m on oral HRT?
Yes. Low-dose vaginal estrogen can be used alongside systemic HRT for persistent vaginal symptoms. The amount absorbed systemically is minimal and generally considered safe.[2]
What are the signs I might need hormone therapy?
Common signs include hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbances, vaginal dryness, mood changes, decreased libido, and joint pain. If these symptoms affect your quality of life, speak with a healthcare provider about whether HRT is appropriate.
